As healthcare organizations assess their response to COVID-19, two key indicators seem to determine the success of their efforts: How well their staff was prepared, and how effectively they leveraged data to adjust to changing conditions.
I recently spoke with Denao Ruttino, Vice President of Operations and Chief Information Officer at Firelands Regional Health System, about how his organization aligned its incident command center toward combating COVID-19 in early 2020.
Building on their success in tracking patients during the initial outbreak with real-time data collected and organized in MEDITECH’s Business and Clinical Analytics (BCA) solution, Firelands is now leveraging BCA to deliver vaccinations and assess the effectiveness of available vaccines.
Firelands also ramped up patient engagement through its patient portal, reducing phone traffic to the hospital’s switchboard while delivering test results more quickly.
