You can’t get much closer to combining your community with your healthcare organization than Tom Kurtz, Chief Administrative Officer, Memorial Healthcare. After all, Tom can see his house right from his office at this busy independent community hospital in Owosso, MI.
When Tom joined Memorial, they were looking into partnering with a larger healthcare organization in the area. But they quickly discovered that instead of going the acquisition route, they could accomplish their goals by working with many organizations. Rather than being fiercely independent, they needed to be interdependent and take a look at what their partners each brought to the table.
“We don't have a singular partner that we identify with,” Kurtz explained. “We have many friends, and many organizations that we partner with for very specific services that we need for our patients and our community.”
Even through the pandemic, Memorial has seen growth year after year. Among their most prestigious accomplishments is the development of a world class neurology department. By focusing on unique subspecialties in neurology, they have developed a robust department and have recently opened a new neurology, orthopedic, and wellness center.
