Social media driving patient engagement during COVID-19 [Survey]

COVID-19 has demonstrated the importance of keeping patients safe and healthy by meeting them wherever they are. One trend that’s emerged during the pandemic is increased communication between physicians and patients, specifically on social media

According to a recent report by W20 Group, patient engagement with physicians on Twitter has almost doubled since the pandemic began. While the increase was initially driven by COVID-19, physicians are sharing a broad range of healthcare-related information, resulting in greater access to medical resources for patients. 

Research also found that physicians who are communicating with patients (and their peers) on Twitter had the highest number of telehealth claims in the first six months of the pandemic, with increases ranging from 27% to 55%. This shows that the physicians engaging on social media are the same ones successfully leveraging digital healthcare tools, such as virtual visits, to provide timely and convenient care for both new and existing patients.
