The healthcare industry generates an overwhelming amount of data, and it’s coming from an overwhelming number of sources. That makes it more important than ever that providers have access to not just any data, but data that’s reliable, useful, and accessible when they need it. That includes data from inside and outside their organization’s EHR. The key to making that happen is true interoperability, and MEDITECH is advancing the charge toward that goal. Over the past year, MEDITECH’s national data exchange network, Traverse Exchange, has given providers access to meaningful data from sources both inside and outside the EHR in a consolidated, deduplicated summary that’s intuitive in surfacing what they need when they need it.

We’ve put together a collection of recent resources to help you understand the latest in interoperability. From a look back at some highlights from 2025 to customer testimonials, webinars, recent news items, and ebooks, we’ve got you covered:

Inflection Point: Interoperability Shifts into a New Gear

In 2025, the shift from static document sharing to intelligent interoperability was in full swing. In this year-in-review, Mike Cordeiro, Senior Director, Interoperability Market and Product Strategy, reflects on one of our driving principles: More data is not better. Better data is better. Mike also looks ahead to the near future, including the application of artificial intelligence on interoperable healthcare data that will improve the lives of patients and providers immeasurably.

MEDITECH’s Traverse Exchange: Better Data Access for Better Care

Traverse Exchange is already moving the needle for the organizations using it. Staff are now experiencing the benefits of seeing all external data from all sources deduplicated and consolidated into a single, summarized view. In this video, you’ll hear from Dr. Kristin Conley of Frederick Health (Frederick, MD) and Tito Perez of Emanate Health (Covina, CA) about how Traverse Exchange is already benefitting patients, providers, and entire healthcare organizations.

Talking TEFCA: The Real-World Impact of Interoperability Frameworks

Through the most recent session in the MEDITECH Thought Leader Webinar Series, you can hear more from Tito, including metrics and takeaways about the real-world impact of intelligent interoperability. You’ll also hear from Dr. Steven Lane, CMO of Health Gorilla, about TEFCA adoption and the latest CMS Interoperability Framework. Mike Cordeiro moderates the discussion and gives an update on MEDITECH’s work to add new tools for both patients and payers.

The Irish Times Highlights MEDITECH’s Role in Ireland’s Digital Health Transformation

Interoperability is a key piece of Ireland's digital health strategy as private hospitals like UPMC Ireland push healthcare’s digital transformation forward. A recent article in The Irish Times takes a look at how UPMC’s adoption of MEDITECH Expanse across hospitals, cancer centres, and sports clinics is leading the way in this transition. UPMC Ireland managing director Eamonn Fitzgerald notes that because nearly half the population in Ireland has private health insurance, interoperability between public and private systems is essential. MEDITECH is the EHR supplier to over 80% of the private healthcare market in Ireland, and we’re helping to make this important shift seamless and effective.

eBook: How To Build a Foundation for Interoperability Success

Finally, in the face of challenges like physician burnout and data overload, it can be difficult to imagine how to best optimize the exciting new possibilities offered by improvements in interoperability. MEDITECH’s eBook, How to Build a Foundation for Interoperability Success, takes a look at strategies for working through these challenges—not just in the EHR, but through cloud computing and FHIR APIs as well as artificial intelligence.
