While generative AI is making headlines everywhere today, just one year ago Suki and MEDITECH were at the starting line of implementing ambient listening and note generation within MEDITECH Expanse – with the goal to reduce administrative burden so clinicians can focus on patient care. Today, Expanse users can access Suki Assistant’s AI capabilities seamlessly across a variety of clinician workflows. It’s both insightful and encouraging to see the progress our teams have made in these 12 months, as AI capabilities integrated into Expanse have significantly reduced administrative workload for clinicians and improved note quality.

Reduced documentation time

When we started this initiative last summer, the Suki team led MEDITECH through a prototype of AI enhancements within Expanse, catering specifically to users via Suki’s new web extension. In a few short months we went from concept to an integrated solution, launched at a pilot site, and received customer feedback confirming that note generation capabilities in Expanse were indeed reducing clinician documentation time.

“Suki has helped me not only complete my documentation more quickly, it has also improved the detail of what is captured in my notes. I feel fortunate to be part of an organization that recognizes and invests in solutions that meaningfully impact both clinician and patient experience.”
Natasha Struewing, Nurse Practitioner, Decatur County Memorial Hospital

Increased user adoption

This year alone, Suki has expanded its support for 30+ additional specialities, as well the ambient output configurability and quality, to better support more users across a variety of organizations. Suki Assistant’s ambient listening and note generation are core to our product and user satisfaction, and since the start of the year we’ve seen both our user base and usage grow by over 100%. Throughout this time, the MEDITECH team has served as a true extension of Suki in our development efforts, sharing the same hyper-focus on end user satisfaction for our customers, and displaying a willingness to openly work through all ideas and issues. With continued enhancements, Suki Assistant’s overall impact has continued to expand:

"Incorporating ambient listening into physician documentation has proven to go beyond reducing documentation burden to also improving the overall quality of the documentation as well as physician satisfaction."
Rebecca Lancaster, CPM, Director of Product Management, MEDITECH

Today both teams know our job is not done. From the Suki product team, we’re excited for enhancements to our integrated capabilities. One pervasive Suki mantra is for our AI technology to be assistive and invisible to clinicians, and we’re excited to work with MEDITECH to implement updates building off the ongoing encouragement of our users.

“Our clinicians [at St. Mary’s] who use Suki tell us not only are they experiencing significantly less administrative burden, they are also able to engage with their patients in a deeper way.”
Julie Demaree, Executive Director of Clinical Innovation and Transformation, St. Mary’s Hospital.
