How genomics will revolutionize healthcare in the next decade [Podcast]

Genomics-Silhouette

This episode of our podcast is one I’ve been looking forward to for quite a while. Genomics is one of the fastest growing fields of medicine today, and our experience with COVID-19 has only accelerated developments. Today we are truly on the brink of transformational change in healthcare. We are entering the era of genomic medicine.

Unfortunately, many physicians already feel overwhelmed with the amount of information they’re expected to consider when making medical decisions, and most of them don’t have advanced training in genetics beyond what they learned in medical school. As a result, even though genetic testing is becoming less expensive and more widely available, most physicians aren’t equipped to bring it into their workflows.

That’s all about to change.

We had the pleasure of speaking with Harvard-trained medical geneticist Dr. Marsha Fearing and doctor of pharmacy Anna Dover, director of product management with FDB (First Databank), to get their perspectives on why and how genomics is about to change healthcare in the very near term. They explain how a patient’s unique genetic profile dramatically affects their response to medications and other therapies, and how physicians from all specialties will soon be able use genetic insights at the point of care, without disrupting or slowing their workflows.

Finally, you’ll hear a different voice during today’s discussion. I’ve asked Jennifer Ford, Product Manager of Genomics in our Strategy Division, to moderate the discussion. Jen is a key member of the team that developed Expanse Genomics and she holds certificates in Genetics, Cancer Genomics and Precision Medicine, and Genetic Testing and Sequencing Technologies. I think you’ll agree she’s well-positioned to facilitate this discussion. I hope you enjoy it.
