Today’s healthcare ecosystem faces a number of challenges, from workforce shortages to cyber threats to financial sustainability, organizations need to stay agile to survive. And one of the greatest resources for healthcare leadership is connecting with peers in their industry to learn from each other's experiences.
For 40 years, the MUSE (Medical Users Software Exchange) organization has been connecting impassioned MEDITECH customers and giving them the opportunity to share strategies as a collective.
“Our mission remains the same,” explains MUSE CEO Alan Sherbinin. “We offer networking and educational opportunities to MEDITECH users. We’ve been putting people in a room together for 40 years so that they can talk about lessons learned and best practices and share their solutions. So that’s something to be proud of.”
With an impressive footprint in the healthcare industry, it’s no surprise that the MUSE organization was able to draw hundreds of attendees to their recent MUSE Inspire conference, which featured an exhibit hall of 81 vendors, dozens of informative education sessions, and a keynote from MEDITECH leadership.
Topics included cybersecurity, workforce challenges, consumerism, and interoperability, to name a few. Meanwhile, “Show and Tell Jam Sessions” provided attendees with the opportunity to network and foster discussions based around specific topics and solutions.

Several education sessions, including those from Interior Health, Citizens Memorial Healthcare, and Phoebe Putney focused on patient engagement and consumerism, as well as portal usage. Patients expect frictionless convenience and ease of use. This was already happening, but with the pandemic the demand has accelerated exponentially. These patient engagement solutions can also assist with workforce needs, by decreasing things such as phone call volume, which can take up nurse resources.

Organizations of every size need to pay attention to the digital disruptors entering the healthcare space. However, as Jonathan Moore explained in his session on patients as consumers, “the disruptors at the door are missing one key ingredient–the patient/provider relationship.”
On Thursday, MEDITECH President and CEO Michelle O’Connor gave her keynote presentation alongside MEDITECH leaders Cathy Turner, RN-BC, BSN, MBA, Chief Marketing and Nurse Executive, and Rachel Wilkes, Director, Marketing. Michelle recognized the accomplishments of the MUSE community and explained how MEDITECH is a committed partner to our customers.

Cathy Turner recognized the healthcare challenges of today, including recruitment and retention, burnout, cost and reimbursement issues, data analytics, technology adoption, and cyber threats. She also examined the importance of patient care, including how organizations need to increase patient safety, attract new patients, and maintain the loyalty of existing patients.
Next, Rachel Wilkes showcased the innovative solutions that MEDITECH offers to face these challenges head on. She explained how MEDITECH's digital platform continues to evolve and elevate the quality of care that organizations provide with solutions including Expanse Revenue Cycle, Genomics, Population Health Management and many more. MEDITECH strives to enable healthcare organizations to deliver care that is safe, efficient, and impactful. And with solutions like Expanse Virtual Assistant and Google Search and Summarization, MEDITECH is leading the way with new technologies designed to help alleviate clinician burden.

With four decades behind us, and many more in the future, it’s clear that the MUSE community will continue to grow and evolve the same as MEDITECH’s solutions have done. We’ll see you in Denver again next year!
